Q: What is Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE)?
A: UPE is the international honor society for computing and information disciplines. At Allegheny College, our chapter recognizes students who excel in academics, fosters a supportive community, and creates opportunities for growth in tech and leadership.
Q: Who can be part of UPE events?
A: While official membership has eligibility requirements, many of our events, workshops, and socials are open to all Allegheny students interested in computing and technology.
Membership
Q: How do I become a member?
A: Eligible students are invited to join once a year based on academic achievement in computing courses. If you meet the GPA and coursework requirements, you’ll receive an email invitation to join.
Q: Is there a fee to join?
A: Yes, there is a one-time $60 initiation fee that covers your induction into UPE and lifetime membership in the honor society.
Q: Do I have to be a computer science major to join?
A: Not necessarily! Students in related computing and information disciplines may also be eligible.
Activities
Q: What does UPE do on campus?
A: We host coding workshops, resume and career prep sessions, guest lectures, and fun social events that bring together students interested in computing and design. We also celebrate academic achievement through our annual induction ceremony.
Q: Does UPE collaborate with other organizations?
A: Yes! We often co-sponsor events with other student clubs, academic departments, and campus offices to make events accessible and engaging.
Leadership & Support
Q: Who runs the UPE chapter?
A: Our chapter is student-led, with officers such as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Website Admin. We’re also supported by a Faculty Advisor from the Computer and Information Science department.
Q: Can I get involved without being a member?
A: Absolutely. You can attend open events, volunteer at chapter activities, and connect with our members. Even if you aren’t yet eligible for membership, there are plenty of ways to engage.
